In providing detail about their approach to sustainability they explain how ‘by integrating sustainable development into their business strategy, they are steadily moving beyond a reactive, compliance-driven approach to an integrated and holistic view, governed by the same rigorous disciplines that guide their other business processes’. Within the Chief Executive’s statement they clearly identify the sustainable development issues – safety, health, climate change and CO2 emissions and employee skills, as being most material to the business. For each issue they provide an overview of their aim and summary performance, which is elaborated on further in the Report.
