Throughout the Report the financial performance of the Company is always linked to the non-financial effect – or contribution to facilitating a significant worldwide reduction in CO2 emissions by providing clients with innovative solutions. Sustainability is presented as a key element of the business approach and is evidenced through the Board of Directors’ letter, key figures, the financial and sustainability discussion, risk management and production development as well as through the provision of long-term targets and expectations for 2011. The management approach and accountability of sustainability is discussed as central to the Group governance processes, a key aspect of the core responsibilities of the executive management team and overseen by the Board level sustainability committee. Novozymes use a time line to demonstrate how the Company has moved forward on the journey towards integration. This explains how the original focus on sustainability was driven by a regulatory push and focus on risk minimisation and compliance, and how that has broadened to include and create business opportunities for the Company and is a key business driver in their new strategy. at novozymes, we integrate sustainability into our everyday business activities. Practically, it means that our sustainability strategy and targets are integrated with the business strategy and take stakeholders’ concerns into consideration. Summary: See page 59 for comment from Novozymes The Novozymes Report positions sustainability as a business driver within their ambitions as a company and, to demonstrate this, the Report discusses how sustainability is integral to the business strategy and influences decision making. The Report also positions the Company as seeking to look outside their direct impacts and support wider economic, social and environmental change. Encouragingly, it is one of the few reports which puts quantitative figures and targets against its contribution to the reduction of CO2 through their clients. However, it should be noted that this quantitative figure represents a percentage change as opposed to the direct impact on the financial performance. 36 The integrated journey
