BC HYDRO ANNUAL REPORT 2010 BC Hydro was one of the first companies to move towards integrated reporting, taking a triple bottom line approach to reporting in their Annual Report since 2003. content review: Stakeholder engagement is given prominence throughout the Report, demonstrating an acknowledgement by the Company that building a sustainable energy future also includes building positive relationships with communities and stakeholders. Although there is recognition of the Company’s responsibility to meet the future energy needs of its direct stakeholders (the province of BC), there is little information provided regarding the Company’s role in seeking to influence or support wider issues. In line with the Company’s stated triple bottom line approach, financial and non-financial information is presented consistently throughout the Report, often with non-financial issues taking the lead and being discussed first. The summary performance information informs the reader of targets set for 2013 and the subsequent reporting is structured around the Company’s guiding principles: safety; reliability; climate change and environmental impact; energy conservation and efficiency; financial targets; customer satisfaction and people. There is a clear step in the right direction with a connection being made between energy savings and the development of cost effective energy programmes, however, the energy measure savings reported are cumulative in nature as opposed to direct, quantified cost savings. a priority for Bc Hydro is to ensure that we align our integrated reporting with what’s material to our business and our stakeholders in a way that supports our strategic direction.
